Calçotada festival
This February, we’re bringing the Catalan tradition of the calçot back to life at Morito.
In Valls, Tarragona, the calçot reigns supreme. Each year, on the last Sunday of January, the town erupts into the Calçotada: a joyous festival where bunches of sweet spring onions are freshly pulled from the earth, grilled over open flames until beautifully charred, then wrapped in newspaper to keep warm. The ritual is gloriously simple—peel them with your hands, dunk generously into rich romesco sauce made with almonds and peppers, and savour every smoky, tangy bite.
But the Calçotada is about far more than onions. It’s about gathering, laughing, getting messy, and celebrating together in true Catalan spirit.
At Morito Exmouth Market, we’ve created special sitting times for Sunday vibes and a four-course Calçotada menu (£45 per person), designed to be enjoyed with plenty of wine and vermouth, complete with your very own traditional Calçotada bib.
Sitting times: 1pm, 3pm, 5:30pm & 7:30pm
Over at Morito Hackney Road, from Wednesday 4th February to Sunday 15th March, groups of six or more can enjoy a set menu of equally unique (but different) dishes, all exploring the calçot in its many glorious forms. Smaller groups can dip into the celebration with specially created à la carte Calçotada dishes.
Come for the calçots, stay for the fiesta.
